Choose the proper mounting bracket setup for the application (1155/6, 2011, AM3…), install the backplate, assemble the HSF mounting base and mount the the HSF making sure to apply the TIM. Depending on your board, pliers may be necessary when fastening the leg nearest the Mosfet heat sinks.

After installation you may decide to mount the fan high (as noted) which allows for overclocking memory, it is not necessary to raise the fan for standard height modules and may be beneficial to run the fan low to eliminate cooling dead zones below the HSF.
